Otaka-poppo is an auspicious toy which was made in Yamagata prefecture. Production began at the end of 18th century by order of the daimyo Uesugi (lord of Yamagata) to encourage secondary industry. Its most notable feature is its spiral feathers, but the older ones may lose them with the passage of time.
