Driven by the wish to bring together leading pieces of Mingei art, over ten years ago Bruno Lussato and his sister Marina Lussato-Fédier began to lay the foundations for a collection that continues to expand today through new acquisitions, particular of Mingei pieces.

Mingei Art (民ッ絈|澵^動ョ) designates folk art as opposed to aristocratic or imperial art in Japan. Mingei art includes uniquely beautiful everyday objects produced using techniques and savoir-faire dating back thousands of years. Objects include ceramics, bamboo artefacts, lacquers, tools, votive objects, decorative pieces, clothing and masks. The collection also showcases typical pieces which help the visitor to understand Japanese culture, such as Ikebana, tea ceremonies and calligraphy.
